Santorini is a romantic volcanic island known for its unique natural landscapes, stunning beaches, and breathtaking sunsets. It offers many places for relaxation and photoshoots.
Megalochori is a traditional village on Santorini characterized by its low, whitewashed houses with blue doors, narrow, stone-paved streets, and numerous churches with bell towers. Unlike the busier tourist spots, Megalochori allows you to stroll through the village peacefully and take photographs in your favorite spots. From the central square, where cafes and taverns are located, narrow streets branch out in various directions.
The village has several picturesque small churches with blue domes and beautiful bell towers. You won’t have to walk far to see all the main attractions. By visiting the Megalochori Churches Viewpoint, you can enjoy views of different churches from one spot, including the Blessed Virgin Mary and Cosmas and Damian churches with their bell towers. The viewpoint is located on the roof of a building and offers a panoramic view of the churches in the village.
Megalochori is one of the famous tourist centers in the southwestern part of Santorini, located near the capital, as seen on the map. The distance from Fira is about 7 km (4.3 miles). You can reach the charming village of Megalochori by car or by taking a regular bus.
